Vacancy for Director of Music

The Chester St. Cecilia Singers, based in Chester, is seeking a suitably qualified, energetic
and inspirational Director of Music to maintain our present high standard and continue our
development. The choir celebrated its 40th anniversary season in 2009 and currently
numbers just under 30 voices.

We are an SATB choir that specialises in a sacred choral repertoire from early music to
contemporary classics. We are passionate about sharing church music that is part of our
musical and spiritual heritage with as many people as we can reach! We perform
accompanied pieces and as an ‘a capella’ group. At present the Singers rehearse in
Chester Cathedral Choir School, on Wednesday evenings 8.00 -10.00 p.m. For more

Applicants should have suitable conducting experience, musical leadership, good
communication skills and a sense of humour. The ability to work in harmony with the choir
and its committee who take charge of the day-to-day administration of the choir is essential.
The new Director of Music will have had formal musical and choral training and will become
an ex-officio committee member, taking full responsibility for all aspects of the Singers’
music repertoire.
