Levens Choir sing Carmina Burana Print
Saturday, 10 July 2010, 19:30 - 21:45 by levenschoir
Levens Choir Concert Saturday July 10, 7.30pm Victoria Hall, Grange

For its Summer concert this year Levens Choir will perform one of the most popular choral works of all time: Carl Orff’s magnificently rhythmic and racy Carmina Burana. Accompanied by 2 pianos, played on this occasion by Adrian Self and Anthony Milledge and a professional percussion ensemble this performance should raise the roof on the Victoria Hall! Opening with ‘O Fortuna’, a tune familiar to all, the piece goes on with number after number rejoicing in the joys of life and love. The choir will be joined by the Amici Singers from Grange and soprano soloist Louise Geatch from Lancaster. Other solo parts will be taken by members of the choir including tenor Simon McCleery who will be risking life and limb to hit the top C sung by the ‘roasted swan’!

The choir will also perform The Blacksmiths by George Dyson. This rarely performed but highly colourful piece, also accompanied by 2 pianos and percussion, sets a medieval English text  which vividly evokes the atmosphere of the smithy and the men who work there. Tickets for the concert - £11 (children & students free), are available from choir members; Gill Smith 01539 730590 / gillasmith@yahoo.co.uk; Grange Tourist Information Centre.
Location: Victoria Hall, Main Street, Grange-Over-Sands
