Rachmaninoffs Symphonic Dances
Selected movements from Prokofievs Romeo & Juliet Ballet Suites

Directed by Eric Jennings

Plus opportunities for chamber playing

This year’s orchestral weekend, organised by Port Sunlight Orchestral Society, will run from the evening of Friday 21st August to the afternoon of Sunday 23rd August 2009 at Ellesmere College, a boarding school between Oswestry and Whitchurch, Shropshire.  The weekend will be directed by Eric Jennings, former principal trombone with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.  Playing will start on Friday evening, with further sessions on Saturday morning/evening, and Sunday morning/afternoon.  The course will end after tea on Sunday afternoon.

The programme this year comprises Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and selected pieces from Prokofiev’s Ballet Romeo and Juliet.  On Saturday afternoon there will be optional chamber playing.

The cost of the weekend for residents is £95, which includes meals from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch inclusive.  Double rooms are available for couples but there is no ensuite accommodation. If you’d prefer to arrange your own accommodation, there are a variety of hotels and guesthouses close to the college.  The fee for non-residents is £30, and meals can be provided for an additional fee.
